GOMBAK, 16 March 2022: Best Student in co-curricular of Kulliyyah of Architecture and Environmental Design (KAED), Nurhanis Akmal binti Jumaat, shared that to stay active in co-curricular activities, it is important to plan and schedule everything for upcoming weeks and months to ensure the focus is properly divided.
Nurhanis Akmal received the award at the 7th session of the 36th Convocation at ICC Hall yesterday morning for her contributions and participation in Student Facilitating Front IIUM (STUFF), a society that focused on facilitating students within Islamic values.
Apart from STUFF, Nurhanis Akmal was also actively participating in events conducted by KAED, in which she emphasised that being active in society is her way of releasing stress as a KAED student.
“There were times when I felt like giving up as I spent more time and sleepless nights working on a project, but I realised that my passion for the course exceeded the need to surrender,” she added.
Asked about her feelings of attending convocation during the pandemic, she seemed to have mixed feelings regarding the situation.
“It feels unusual attending a convocation when I’ve started working and the convocation has been postponed for two years due to the pandemic, but deep down, I’m very delighted as I was able to officially end my degree’s journey with my family and friends,” Nurhanis Akmal told IIUMToday.
She said that attending this convocation was the proudest moment of her life because she was able to bring her parents along to share the excitement of becoming one of the award recipients.
Nurhanis Akmal advised IIUM students to try new things, whether academic or social, because this is the only time when mistakes are tolerated.
“It is important to enjoy your journey of study, hence find friends who are worth the ups and downs of your studies,” she added.
Nurhanis Akmal expressed gratitudes to her parents, friends, and studio mates for their unwavering support in helping her to finish her studies. ***
