GOMBAK, 15 March 2022: A total of 451 Engineering graduates representing nine different specialisations were honoured at the sixth session of the IIUM 36th Convocation Ceremony on Monday for their earnestness and willingness to assist the community, particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Various innovative contributions have been made by them to benefit the society, specifically in assisting the country in dealing with the COVID-19 outbreak.

“Indeed, this Kulliyyah has made significant contributions to the treatment of COVID-19 patients, particularly in Malaysia”, IIUM Rector, Professor Emeritus Tan Sri Dzulkifli Abdul Razak said in his speech.

He said the contribution of `medibot’, a barrel-shaped robot on wheels, functions in making rounds in hospital wards to monitor coronavirus patients, which minimise the risk of infection among the medical teams.

“This effort is a source of pride for all Malaysian public universities, and it has also attracted the attention of the global media, including Al Jazeera.

“It is the result of the graduates’ hard work, innovation, and critical thinking in assisting the country’s fight against COVID-19,” the Rector proudly said.

Tan Sri Dzulkifli also advised graduates to be engineers or inventors who value humanity in their innovations rather than treating them merely as a job. ***
