GOMBAK, 30 January 2022: There are a number of recycling initiatives conducted in IIUM Gombak campus that are not known to all students, programme manager of IIUM Recycle Alert, Illya Nadzhirah Binti Jaafar revealed.
With the aim to promote recycling in campus, the Recycle Alert campaign organised by IIUM Eco Club is set to officially launch on 31 January and continue until the end of February 2022.
Illya, who is also the Vice President 1 in IIUM Eco Club tenure 2021/2022, shared that the club works as the pivotal hub for students to actively learn and participate in the environmental initiatives, as well as partake in making IIUM a truly sustainable university.
œWe hope this project may bring and increase the awareness of IIUM students towards the recycling campaign on campus, Illya said.
To ease the process of recycling, the following initiatives are going to be offered:
1. Turn Your Trash To Cash
On a weekly basis, a recycling truck will visit the Mahallahs in campus to collect recyclable items. In exchange of recycling, students will receive cash.
2. E-Waste
To properly dispose of E-waste and help protect the environment, students will be able to drop off their old electronic devices at ICT Services Help Desk, ITD IIUM Gombak.
3. Food Waste
Instead of throwing away unwanted food, students will be able to partake in the food waste recycling collection service at any Mahallah Café.
IIUM Eco Club, formerly known as LeEco Movement, was founded by a group of students from Kulliyyah of Economics and Management Sciences (KENMS) with the aim to educate and collaborate with people and organisation within the campus to create a community with greener lifestyle and to protect and sustain the ecological stability.
The clubs vision is to make IIUM as the leading example for an ideal embodiment of sustainable living and environmental awareness perfectly aligned with the university’s sustainable development goals.
œReally glad to have all my team members helping me to realise this campaign and we are aiming for bigger impact and plan in the future, Illya concluded.
