GOMBAK, 24 December 2020: With 1,581 new COVID-19 cases recorded as of noon today, Malaysia continues to record an increase in the number of active cases to 18,773 cases.
Health Director-General Tan Sri Dr. Noor Hisham Abdullah said that the recent figures bring the cumulative number of infections up to the six-digit range with 100,318.
Of the total, two cases are imported.
Selangor remains the highest contributor of cases, recording 491 infections or 31.1 per cent of the total.
This is followed by Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur with 379 cases ( 24.0 per cent) and Sabah with 249 cases (15.7 per cent), according to Tan Sri Dr. Noor Hisham’s statement today.
Approximately, 17.1 per cent of the cases reported today are linked to clusters at Temporary Detention Centres and prisons, involving Jalan Harapan Prison cluster (185 cases), Tembok Gajah cluster (74 cases), GK Tawau cluster (six cases), Tembok Cluster (four cases), and Bakti Cluster (one case).
Additionally, 1,085 people have been discharged, increasing the number of recoveries to 81,099 equivalent to 80.8 per cent of the cumulative number of cases.
Some 102 patients are in intensive care, with 45 requiring ventilator support.
Two people succumbed to the virus and were reported in Sabah, bringing the death toll to 446.***
