GOMBAK, 13 April 2017: Imam Al Gazzali, the proof of Islam, the gatherer of the multifarious sciences, and an absolute mujtahid. The true psychology and ethics can be found in his education, according to psychology experts.

Last night there was a Talk Series: Imam Al Ghazali (Psychology & Ethics), held at Auditorium B, Kulliyyah of Engineering which was organised by the Secretariat of Psychology Students (PSYCSTA) in collaboration with the Islamic Revealed Knowledge and Heritage Students Society (ISRAK) in conjunction with Psychology Week.

Programme manager, Muhammad Qamarul Ikhwan said the aim of tonights programme was to understand psychology and ethics from the context of Imam Al Gazzali.

There were two speakers at the œImam Al Ghazali (Psychology & Ethics) talk. One was a talk by Assistant Professor, Dr. Alizi Alias from the Department of Psychology, on the topic “Al Gazzaly and Psychology”.

And the other prominent speaker was Assistant Professor, Dr. Megawati Moris, from the Department of Usul Al Din who talked about “Al Gazzali and Ethics”.

œWe failed to promote psychology, not only the study on counselling. And studying psychology does not lead us toward secularism. But if we look at the life of Al Gazzali we can see that he had related psychology with Quranic verses, said Dr. Alizi Alias.

However, Dr. Alizi Alias said, “Some people think Al Gazzali did not talk about science, what psychology has, but if we notice clearly, we can find Al Gazzali includes anatomy, brain and cognition on his education.”

œTherefore, IRKHS students should study psychology with the support of Quranic revelation, he added.

Dr. Megawati said on her talk, œAl Gazzalis ethics was aimed at morality and purification of soul, and that is the sciences of the path of akhirah. ***
