GOMBAK, 14 February 2017: In conjunction with the World Radio Day yesterday, IIUM.fm promoted the campus radio in the university by setting up four booths at the HS Square comprising of Information Booth, Games Booth, Selling Booth and Photo Booth to educate its listeners.
The event was aimed at showcasing the growth of the campus radio since its establishment in 2010 which saw an improvement in the production of programmes and the training of its members to handle the electronic media in a more efficient manner.
The radio has been used as a platform for communication students to equip themselves with broadcasting skills and knowledge to reach the public on latest events on campus that are shared among listeners around the world.
The radio programmes are constructed in the same way as a commercial radio. Last semester, IIUM.fm invited celebrities such as Najwa Latif, Lah Ahmad and Fara Fauzana to be their guests at the studio to share their thoughts with the listeners.
“In terms of campus radio in Malaysia, we have a large media presence. We have the second largest Facebook followers and the largest Instagram followers on the social media, Advisor of IIUM.fm, Dr. Shafizan Mohamed told IIUMToday.
“My hope is that we can prepare our students with the industry standard in terms of radio and video production. Because of that, we try to adopt the 360 degree strategy in the radio, she added.
Dr. Shafizan mentioned that she is proud of the fact that IIUM.fm has a large media presence and is currently leading among other campus radio stations in Malaysia. Besides that, she also felt that the members are now more coordinated in terms of proper programme planning and execution of their tasks.
World Radio Day is celebrated by all radio stations and supporting organisations worldwide on 13 February. Aimed at promoting just how radio has shaped our lives, this celebration has entered the sixth year. ***
