GOMBAK, 28 November 2016: A total of 60 Malaysians have gone to Syria to fight for the radical Islamist militant group, Daesh, Inspector-General of Police, Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar revealed during a talk on national security at IIUM recently.

Out of that number, a total of 14 of them have carried out suicide bombings.

He stated that most Malaysians who joined Daesh in Syria did so because they were falsely promised the award of Jannah in the afterlife.

“They get influenced by Daesh rhetoric through the platform of social media,” he said. “Only a few have actually had face to face interaction with Daesh members.”

To combat the very serious problem of terrorism, Tan Sri Khalid stressed, it is crucial for all of us to unite together and stand as one.

He said, “Working side by side is not just the best option we have, but it is also the only option.” ***
