What do you do when you have free time? I could imagine some of you may be surfing the Internet, reading a book, newspapers, or magazines. Some of you may spend your time watching movies or dramas, or doing your assignments. For me, I prefer to entertain myself by visiting this site in the Internet called Reddit. This is my source of entertainment, information, and knowledge.
What is Reddit? In its true definition it’s like a site for the collection of social news, filled with web contents, and allow a live discussion between its communities. Reddit is like a library of the Internet. It is built in a user friendly manner in getting information, requesting for an answer, and finding different point of view from people of varied backgrounds.
The reason I’m saying this is because, within Reddit, the subjects or topics of discussion ranges from all types of subjects – economy, politics, history, social studies, technology, aerospace, engineering, conspiracy theory, support group. And the list goes on and on. The interesting part is that its contents are treated with care as it is filled with legitimate or accurate facts and figures provided by those who are directly involved in the topics concerned.
With its 542 million monthly visitors, you could predict that the contents and information are built and developed in such a heavy manner for people to consume. However, the unique part of Reddit is that its gatekeepers function really well in terms of filtering of contents, that is those without valid facts, contents filled with unnecessary hatred comments, as well as auto-generated users who used spamming. This is the common problems faced by most online sites today. Now, that is for the information part of Reddit site.
For the fun part, Reddit is filled with user self-generated contents jokes, filled with funny memes, and you could create your own story-telling as a topic, where users may join in, creating a content filled with laughs and jokes. Do you like light jokes? Reddit have tons of it. You like dark humorous joke? Reddit have it. You like sarcastic joke? Reddit have it! You like pictures with funny captions, gif images, trust me Reddit have it!
Reddit is also fun because every once in a month you could have celebrities from all around the world, renown scientists, technologies pioneers, inspirational people doing inspirational things who come to the site and open a thread called “Ask Me Anything” where you can just directly communicate with your favourites figures.
Imagine, even the ex-president of the United States of America, Barrack Obama, was once featured in Reddit, and just cracking jokes and making conversation with people all around the world.
For those of you who are familiar with Reddit, you know that what I’m writing is true, and for those who still don’t know what Reddit is, you might want to check it out. I guarantee that it will not disappoint you, especially when you want to use your free time to search for something interesting and beneficial.***
