GOMBAK, 17 October 2016 – A white Proton Saga parked in front of the Cultural Activity Centre (CAC) in IIUM campus caught fire shortly after noon today.

Auxiliary police officer, Norman Khalil, who was on duty at the students’ complex said he was alerted of the incident at about 1.15 p.m.

He said, “I got the report around 1.15p.m. when I was on duty at the students’ complex. Once I reached the parking lot, I saw the car in flames. The car was not fully on fire, but it was starting to spread from the front of the car. The only thing in my head was to get a fire extinguisher. So, after I witnessed the scene, I immediately extinguished the fire before it started burning the cars around.”

Meanwhile, Gombak Selatan Fire and Rescue Department officer, Johari Kamin, said, “We arrived at 2.03p.m. after receiving the report. After checking the condition of the car, we can only conclude that this case would still be under investigation by the Forensic Unit of Selangor Fire Station.”

He added, “The odds, however, are that there are no signs of arson and the battery was the cause of the fire.” ***
