GOMBAK, 2 October: Amirul Hisham Abdul Rahman has been elected as the new President of Students’ Representative Council (SRC) during Syura process for office bearers, last Friday, with a mixed feeling of his reactions to the post entrusted on him.
He said it was really a mixed feeling for him after being elected the new President until he succeeded to settle an issue concerning a foreign student who was detained at the Putrajaya Immigration just a few days after the Syura.
Amirul Hisham is a third year Engineering student and holds the position of Vice President for ENGENIUS IIUM.
œHonestly speaking, not until I settled the case of our student who was detained at the immigration centre, after we put so much effort, and the student was finally released. That was the moment I confirmed my feelings as President to help the students.
Amirul Hisham was now ready for his immediate plan as the new President of SRC to integrate relations between international and local students to move a step further.
œWe need to be united as IIUM community. I must say this is the most important thing and the main criteria in improving our university to the betterment of everybody. I am willing to bring this up after being elected as President, he said.
As the most important person in leading the new SRC line-up for this tenure, Amirul Hisham hoped that all members can put aside any sentiment that they might have towards SRC.
œMembers of SRC are from various backgrounds. I hope we can put aside any differences among us and realise that all of us are Muslims and therefore we need to work together for the sake of the Ummah, said Amirul Hisham during an interview at the SRC office.
œTo fellow students, we invite you to be together with SRC and support each other. Let us be your voice for the betterment of our university and most importantly, to benefit us all.
Amirul Hisham is a representative from Kuliyyah of Engineering having won the highest votes together with Muhammad Afif Rahman.***
