GOMBAK, 23 September 2016 – International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM) students have made their choice for their representatives when they cast their votes in the campus election today for the Students Representative Council (SRC) 2016/2017 tenure.
A total of almost 6000 students turned out to cast their vote for their favourite candidates from all Kulliyyahs which represented 56.2% of overall eligible voters of around 10,000 that included both Malaysian and International students. The voter turn out this time had decreased by about 10% compared to the previous election.
“There are certainly rooms for improvement because this is one of the biggest events along with Taaruf Week and Convocation Fiesta. There are hiccups here and there, but we will improve from time to time for better in the future,” Chairman of the SRC Election Commission, Tuan Anuzi Nik Him said.
“Three Kulliyyahs had won uncontested (Ahmad Ibrahim Kulliyyah of Law or AIKOL, Kulliyyah of Economics and Management Sciences or KENMS and Kulliyyah of Education or KOED), two of which, AIKOL and KENMS are popular as they have a big number of students who are eligible to cast their votes,” he added.
Candidates from all Kulliyyahs showed their professionalism especially during the campaign as well as during the voting process, an indication of maturity.
Tuan Anuzi said that IIUM has an SRC Election Tribunal, members of which are appointed by the Rector, where students can channel all their problems and issues if they are unhappy with the election results.
