GOMBAK, 26 July 2016: The Entrepreneurship Development Centre (EDC), IIUM has sent a team of four students to participate in Franchise Business Challenge 2016. A team from IIUM representing WowKawKaw Empire, which is a product business focusing on food and beverages, will present their ideas in a franchise business challenge.

The IIUM team comprising Muhammad Naeem Bin Zaidi, a Business Admin major, Nurul Husna Binti Abu Othman, an Islamic Finance major, Normaisarah Zazali, a Political Science major, and Najwa Abd Halim, a Counselling major, is going to compete alongside other teams from Universiti Malaya (UM), Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM), Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM), Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM), and other universities.

Franchise Business Challenge 2016 is an event organised by the Ministry of Domestic Trade, Co-operatives and Consumerism (KPDNKK), and Malaysia Franchise Association (MFA).

The objectives of this programme, among others, are to expose university students to franchise business as well as to build the interest and passion on entrepreneurship among Malaysian students.

The team members have been preparing themselves by attending intensive courses about franchising business prepared by the organisers before they take on the challenge to present their ideas during business presentations on 29 September 2016.

The founder of WowKawKaw Empire, Muhammad Naeem said, “Joining this programme is the first step for WowKawKaw to enter franchised business.”

WowKawKaw started its business in IIUM by selling Thailand tea and has received great acknowledgement from consumers since its establishment. Now it has managed to set up two branches, one in IIUM and another in Sungai Buloh.

One of the participants, Normaisarah Zazali, shared with us what she learned from the programme.

She said, “I learned that business is not a way to get rich instantly but it is a platform where you provide solution to society’s problems.”

Normaisarah added that she learned that franchise is the best type of business to bring the brand into global market. ***
