GOMBAK, 23 June 2016: The SRC has decided to use the Waqf module to raise funds for a covered pathway project to be constructed from Mahallah Maryam to the Kulliyyah of Engineering, according to a press release issued by Students’ Representative Council (SRC) 15/16 yesterday.
“To make the project a success, the money donated towards the Waqf can only be used for the project, thus making the flow transparent and beneficial for a long time, the release said quoting a statement by Chairperson of SRC Welfare Bureau, Abdullah Mohd.
The concept of Waqf used for this project has been classified into two methods, namely individual waqf (cash waqf) and through corporate zakat.
The proposed Waqf walkway will also be connecting seven resident buildings which are Mahallah Asiah, Mahallah Aminah, Mahallah Asma, Mahallah Hafsa, Mahallah Halimah, Mahallah Maryam, and Mahallah Ruqayyah, to the centre of the university, according to Co-Chairperson of SRC Welfare Bureau, Hajar Azhari.
There have been no official complaints received by SRC but past records showed students were facing problems to commute daily to classes and clinic especially during heavy rain and having to walk under scorching sun.
The covered pathway has been proposed by SRC since 2008. However, due to certain limitations and constraints, the project has been suspended for several years. Recently, the university has decided to resume the project with the help of SRC 15/16 through Waqf Module, the statement said.***
