GOMBAK, 18 April 2016: The Secretariat of Political Science Students Association (POSSA) of IIUM for the first time organised a ‘Helping Hand Programme’ yesterday precisely for helping Rohingya kids at Sekolah Pelangi Kasih Selayang.

“We are helping the Rohingya kids in terms of giving donation, clothes, blankets, and food that can be used on their daily basis,” said Programme Manager of Helping Hand Programme, Mohd Taufiq Arifin.

According to Mohd Taufiq Arifin, the purpose of this programme is to focus on Rohingya kids so as to expose them to the public through such activities.

“It is a positive welcoming show by the 35 Rohingya kids, where most of them are in the ages of 5 to 12,” he added.

Meanwhile, there were about 16 volunteers from POSSA Team participating in this programme.

The POSSA volunteering team held activities such as aerobic workout, ice breaking, candy in the flour, chicken dance and designing shirt from the newspaper to build relationship between the volunteers and the Rohingya kids, despite facing difficulties in terms of language for communicating.

This programme has taught POSSA team on how volunteerism works in the field through such exposure according to Mohd Taufiq.

POSSA has also announced that there will be another programme for the Rohingya kids but the date still remained to be discussed.***
