Vacation on water

By Maryam Spahic

We all will always eventually reach a point where we feel the need for a good break. A long break, a short break, it does not matter; you just want to get away for a bit. And that point is usually around this time, in the middle of the semester, after six weeks of non-stop lectures, assignments and midterm exams.

Then comes the complicated decision-making part. Where to go? How much am I willing to spend? Who do I go with? How many days do I have to spare? How far am I willing to travel?

A while ago, I went for a very quick and short vacation with the family. We went to a hotel in Port Dickson for two days. Quite frankly, when my mom first mentioned it, I thought to myself, “Who even goes to Port Dickson anymore?” because as far as I know, the rating for Port Dickson has gone down as the non-stop construction work all around has contaminated the beach, air and view. Oddly enough, here I am recommending it to you.

We stayed at Lexis Hibiscus which is a new hotel that was officially opened early 2015 and it is absolutely worth a try out. Port Dickson is a coastal district in the state of Negeri Sembilan, Malaysia. It takes just about an hour and a half by car from Kuala Lumpur.

This five-star hotel is of the on-water individual resort homes concept. From a distance, you will be able to notice that the resort is shaped in a hibiscus on the water. Among the facilities offered by the hotel are bicycle rental, gym and a public swimming pool.

The best thing about this hotel is the private pool in each resort home. Yes, you read that right. You don’t have to go all the way to Bali to enjoy a pool all to yourself. You can just travel a little bit outside Kuala Lumpur. Each room has a mini private swimming pool as well as a sauna. And while relaxing in the pool, you get to enjoy the view of the sea since you are already halfway on top of the water. It’s absolutely breath-taking.

In case you are in dire need for at least a quick yet enjoyable vacation, Lexis Hibiscus is definitely worth a shot. Of course, islands like Perhentian and Langkawi are undeniably topping the charts for best vacation destinations but not often do we have the time and perhaps, as students, the money to travel far away. So gather your family and friends, pack your bags and before you know it, you’d already be at the resort ready to enjoy.***
