Slowly but surely for tea enthusiasts Anis and Umar

By Ahmed Wafi Abdul Rashid

GOMBAK, 15th March: Anis Humaira and Umar Abdul Aziz, both third year students at the International Islamic University  Malaysia are young entrepreneurs selling herbal tea. These young entrepreneurs have taken the paths less travelled, away from the typical business of headscarves and football jerseys, they have ventured into the business of herbal tea.

Yummcha came to life as a result of Anis’ love for herbal tea and has since been flourishing despite its ups and downs

Anis said that she started making herbal tea after falling in love with ˜eight treasure tea or also known as ˜Babao tea found in many Chinese restaurants. She then realized that it would be costly and ineffective to keep going to the Chinese restaurants as it was a bit far from where she stays and so, she decided to make them on her own.

After a while, she realised the ingredients used for her tea was quite expensive and in order to reduce costs, she decided to buy in bulk.

Like most business-minded people, in order for her to cover the business costs, she began to sell the tea. She began experimenting with the different herbs and also conducted a thorough one-month research in order to find out the different functions of the different herbs.

What is peculiar about the business is the way in which she sells her products. Instead of renting a stall, she simply sits with her business partner during lunch hour with her white plastic bag from the Factory Outlet Store and once in a while, Umar will ask an unsuspecting passerby if they want to buy tea.

When asked why she does business this way, she responded by saying that she feels it is unfair to other entrepreneurs who have to rent stalls and sell their products while we sit down at an empty table and sell them.

Her business began in December 2015 and has been slowly expanding. Anis and Umar plan to keep things small and manageable for the time being and thus have only been advertising through social media.

When asked if she would like to say anything to aspiring entrepreneurs, Anis said œdo something you love and it wont feel like work and believe in your product! Do follow Yummcha on Instagram and Twitter @yummcha_ ***
