HULU LANGAT, 9 March 2016: Despite his feet getting lots of blisters during the race, a student from Kulliyyah of Economics and Management Sciences, Muhammad Satrio Banyubiru, managed to complete a distance of 70km within 11 hours 18 minutes 40 seconds in the Nuang Ultra Challenge 2016 which had put him on the 10th position.
The race was held at Mount Nuang, Selangor on 28 February 2016 with a total of four participants from IIUM. The other three participants were Haziq Hakim bin Mohamed Ali, Muhammad Suffian bin Rosli and Fikri bin Md Nawi with the records of 8 hours 54 minutes 2 seconds, Â 9 hours 3 minutes 3 seconds, and 9 hours 4 minutes 47 seconds respectively to finish 50km.
The race which needed a minimum completion of 50km started on 6.30 a.m until 6.30 p.m. The allocated time of 12 hours allowed the participants to stop after completing 50km but for Satrio, who completed the first 50km at 12.00p.m, was determined to continue the race.
He said, œAfter completing 50km race, I took a rest for about 30 minutes. Then, I decided to continue the race to complete another 20km within four hours.
Apart from that, he mentioned that the last 20km was super hard since his body started to feel fatigued and due to some small injury on his feet. œI only can walk, but not run. But it doesnt mean that I must quit from the race, he expressed enthusiastically.
This race, in fact, was one of the requirements for the Bromo Tengger Semeru (BTS) 100 Ultra 2016 which will be held this November in Indonesia.
Anyone who is interested to participate in the BTS 100 Ultra 2016, must at least participate in one ultra run above 50km. Hence, all of the four IIUM students were qualified to compete in the upcoming BTS 100 Ultra 2016.***
