TANJUNG MALIM, 16 November 2015: The 6th Outdoor Recreational Assembly of students from public and private universities was held in Tanjung Malim, Perak for three days from 6 to 9 November at Teratak Riverview to create an opportunity for students to interact and understand the concept of outdoor survival. It was organised by Management and Science University (MSU).
Programme Manager, Muhammad Qayyim Nureen, said, œThe main purpose of the assembly is to test the mental and physical endurance of the participants during survival challenge. This can also create bonding between participants as they can share their ideas and individual experience about outdoor activities.
The assembly involved participation of students from the following universities: International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM), Management and Science University (MSU), Universiti Teknikal  Melaka Malaysia (UTEM), Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI), University of Selangor (UNISEL), University of Kuala Lumpur Malaysian Institute of Information Technology (UNIKL MIIT), Universiti Tenaga Nasional (UNITEN), Universiti Malaysia Pahang (UMP), Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia (UTHM), Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM Shah Alam, UiTM Kota Bharu and UiTM Perak).
Among the activities conducted during the event were sharing moment sessions from each university on the history and achievements of their clubs, a talk on ‘Search and Rescue’ by the Director of Silver Outdoor Sports (S.O.S), Mr. Muzafar Mohamad, hiking activity to Lubuk Kawah Waterfall, youth discussion on preparing proposals for club activities, Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme at Kampung Balun, followed by hardcore hunting.
Most of the activities were very challenging and participants were required to make tough preparations in terms of both mental and physical endurance.
The assembly gave participants the chance to share ideas and useful tips to help them improve their outdoor survival skills. It was felt that such activities should be held continuously for young people to enhance their thinking skills in dealing with crisis situation when faced with very limited resources to survive. ***
