Ampang Park shopping complex, built in 1973, has always occupied a warm spot in my heart. I was then a rookie Federal Counsel in the Attorney-Generals Chambers, having my quarters in a government apartment building in Jalan Belfield, not too far away from Wisma Putra. Soon after the modern shopping complex opened up for business, I was amongst its happy patrons. Housed in a four-storey building, the complex has everything for a middle-income wage earner living in Kuala Lumpur, including a fine restaurant, a play-land for children, banks and a cinema. Parking was always a breeze, and travelling along Jalan Ampang then was a breeze, unlike a living nightmare today.
