308 PhD graduands receive scrolls in first session of IIUM’s 40th Convocation

GOMBAK, 16 November 2024: In the first session of the 40th IIUM Convocation Ceremony today, there were 308 PhD graduands who received their scrolls at IIUM Gombak.

This year’s convocation ceremony will have nine sessions for 5,041 graduands in total. It will be held for five days from Saturday, 16 November until Wednesday, 20 November 2024.

The Constitutional Head of the IIUM, Her Royal Highness Tengku Ampuan Pahang Tunku Azizah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah Binti Almarhum Sultan Iskandar Al-Haj, graciously officiated the opening of the first session of the convocation ceremony.

Additionally, Her Royal Highness Tengku Ampuan Pahang conferred the titles Professor Emeritus to Prof. Dato’ Dr. Mohamed Ridza Wahiddin, and Professor Emerita to Prof. Dr. Maliah Sulaiman and Prof. Dr. Rosnani Hashim. The Professor Emeritus and Professor Emerita titles are lifetime honours awarded to retired professors who continue to contribute to academia. This recognition is a tribute to their dedication and contributions to the university.

There will be several major academic excellence awards, including the Royal Education Award, Best Overall Student Award, Abdullah Ibn Ummi Maktum Special Award (Academic), and Amr Ibn Al-Jamuh Special Award (Co-Curricular Activities).

The Royal Education Award, gifted by the Council of Rulers, was presented to two graduates, Nur Adlina binti Ruslan from the Kulliyyah of Pharmacy and Najihah binti Abd Razak from the Kulliyyah of Engineering (Aerospace). This award is the highest recognition for graduates who excel in academics and co-curricular activities.

The Abdullah Ibn Ummi Maktum Special Award (Academic) and Amr Ibn Al-Jamuh Special Award (Co-Curricular Activities) are special awards granted to graduates with disabilities who excel in academics and co-curricular activities.

Nurhidayu Ishak received the Abdullah Ibn Ummi Maktum Special Award (Academic), as a Bachelor of Information Technology graduate from the Kulliyyah of Information and Communication Technology (KICT), as her determination and dedication are commendable. Born with dwarfism, she exemplifies resilience in achieving success.

The Amr Ibn Al-Jamuh Special Award (Co-Curricular Activities) was awarded to Nurulhuda Khairani Taupeack Kamal, a graduate from the Kulliyyah of Sustainable Tourism and Contemporary Languages (KSCTL) at IIUM’s Pagoh campus, with a Bachelor of Arts in Arabic for International Communication (Honours). Despite her visual impairment, she described her journey at the IIUM as one of resilience, adaptation, and self-discovery.***
