Professor Emerita Dr. Rosnani Hashim appreciates honourary title at 40th IIUM Convocation

GOMBAK, 17 November 2024: Prof. Dr. Rosnani Hashim was awarded the Emerita Professor title at the International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM)’s 40th Convocation Ceremony, on 16 November 2024. The recognition celebrates her outstanding contributions to education, research, and the university community.

In her acceptance speech, Professor Emerita Dr. Rosnani expressed the importance of the title in allowing retired academics to stay active in research, writing, and mentoring. “This honour means I can continue contributing to the university and the academic community,” she said. She emphasized the critical role of educators in shaping future leaders and professionals.

This shows Professor Emerita Dr. Rosnani’s unwavering dedication to the IIUM, pioneering work in educational reform, and her worldwide contributions to the area of education. Her work serves as evidence of how education can change people’s lives, influence societies, and build bridges.

Having served as the Dean of the Kulliyyah of Education at the IIUM, Professor Emerita Dr. Rosnani has left a lasting legacy in teaching, critical thinking, and the Islamization of knowledge. She shared her experience of teaching Palestinian students during their struggles and her recent initiatives to train Cambodian teachers on developing the curriculum on Islamic studies.

Professor Emerita Dr. Rosnani also reflected on the timing of the recognition, suggesting that the title should be awarded earlier to retired academics, at the age of 60, to maximize the contributions of academics during their most productive years.

Her dedication to education and community service has inspired countless students and colleagues, many of whom have gone on to become leaders in their respective fields. Professor Emerita Rosnani described her students as a bridge between the IIUM and the wider world in disseminating knowledge and fostering critical skills.
