IIRIE 2015 honours IIUM inventions and innovations

GOMBAK, 2 October 2015: œWe are nurturing our students to become leaders for the Muslim Ummah, IIUM Rector, Prof. Dato Sri Dr. Zaleha Kamaruddin, told the the International Research, Invention and Innovation Exhibition (IRIIE) 2015 Award Giving Ceremony today.

In her remarks, she called on the academic staffs to give their full support to the university to achieve its vision as the Premier International Islamic Research University.

On top of everything, she emphasised that the innovations and inventions should reflect the Islamic values and be in line with the IIRIEs objectives and theme.

Held at the Cultural Activity Centre, the Award Giving Ceremony was officiated by the Chairman of IRIIE 2015, Prof. Dr. Mohamed Ridza Wahiddin, who is also the Deputy Rector of Research & Innovation, accompanied by the Rector.

Among the recipients of the awards were Prof. Dr. Irwandi Jaswir from Kulliyyah of Engineering who won two medals (Gold) for Category ‘A’: Commercial Potential Award (CPA) IRIIE 2015 with his topics (1) Extraction of carotenoid for six types of Malaysian shrimp carapace using high pressure processing, and (2) High pressure processing: A novel method for Halal gelation production.

For Category ‘B’, Best Indexed and Non-Indexed Journal Articles, witnessed a senior academic from the Department of Communication, Prof. Saodah Wok, receiving an award for her research on œCommunication networks, organisational contacts and communication power in grooming professionals for career success.

The third award, Category ‘C’: University Best Researcher Award is one of the awaited acknowledgment by the university. The winners were Dr. Wan Wardatul Amani binti Wan Salim, who received the LOREAL “ UNESCO for Women in Science Award 2015 and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Anis Nurashikin Nordin who received special recognition at the European Women Inventors & Innovators Network (EUWIIN) International 2015 Award. Apart from that, all the six winners walked away with a plaque, a certificate and a cheque of RM 1,000.

This year, the most prestigious award goes to the Kulliyyah of Information and Communication Technology as the Best Kulliyyah contributions to IREP for ‘S&T’ Category, and the Kuliyyah of Language and Management as the Best Kulliyyah contributions to IREP for Social Sciences & Humanities category. Each of the Kulliyyah received RM5,000 and a plaque.

The peak of the event saw the Rector delivering a special plaque and a certificate to Assoc. Prof. Dr. Asan Gani Bin Abdul Muthalif from the Kulliyyah of Engineering for the University Innovation Award 2015.***
