For Sidek Baba it’s more than an award

GOMBAK, 3 October 2015: Prof. Dato Dr. Sidek Baba of Kulliyyah of Education expressed his gratefulness to be nominated as recipient for the IIUM Merdeka Award 2015 at the Al-Liqa Al-Shahri that took place at the Cultural Activity Centre (CAC) yesterday (2 October).

œI did not expect to receive this award, but am thankful to Allah for this great opportunity to receive the award for the small contribution I have done for the society,” Dato’ Dr. Sidek Baba said after receiving the award from the Rector, Dato’ Sri Dr. Zaleha Kamaruddin.

The Merdeka Award is given to the most worthy candidate who has made significant, sustained, innovative and meaningful contribution or service for continued relevance in education and/or community that has benefited or improved the life of Malaysians or the Malaysian society.

Prof. Dato Dr. Sidek has successfully fulfilled the criteria set by the University for engaging deeply in various kinds of creative and innovative activities in the field. Since early 1970s Dr. Sidek has been involved in reaching out the dakwah through ABIM or the Angkatan Belia Islam Malaysia. He has also been engaged in several organisations for educational purposes.

His special interest since younger days was to write books, articles and working papers. To-date, he has written some 33 books on the subject of knowledge, education, Islamic thought, Islamic management, Islam, youth, integration and Islamisation, family, autobiography, and study circle movement. He has presented more than a thousand papers all over the world on many different subjects.

œMy principle that I hold from a young age is to serve the family, my own self and my society and I have been holding it for the past 50 years. Now I contribute in the form of dakwah.” ***
