GOMBAK, 4 September 2015: The tenure of the IIUM Students Representative Council (SRC IIUM) for 2014/2015 came to an end following its dissolution yesterday (3 September). The announcement to the effect was made by the university’s administration.
The dissolution came about before the completion of its one-year term and before the holding of the Council’s Annual General Meeting as disclosed by a few SRC members.
With the release of the statement from the university’s administration yesterday, the Students Representative Council under the leadership of its President Hanif Mahpa, was officially dissolved.
After serving the students for two semesters, Hanif Mahpa and his Council have carried out various activities to cater for the welfare and needs of the students on campus, with the theme ‘Strong Together’.
A number of student activities were initiated under Hanif’s leadership. Among them was the Students for Flood Relief (I-SAF) programme when 120 volunteers were sent to the affected areas in Kelantan, Terengganu and Pahang in January 2015. This was followed by the Suspended Meal for Students programme in cafeteria and mahallah to help students with financial difficulties to buy food. Other activities were Student Voice Out, I-Care, I-Share, I-Iqra, and Misi Mahasiswa Rakyat.
The election for the next Students Representative Council 2015/2016 will be held on 17 September. Meanwhile, the nomination day will be organised on 12 September, which is one week in advance before the election.
All SRC programmes planned for Semester 1, 2015/2016 therefore cannot be endorsed as the Council for 2014/2015 has been dissolved.
IIUMToday takes this opportunity to thank Hanif Mahpa and his Council for their effort in contributing towards the welfare of the students and for their initiatives in ensuring that students’ views were heard or recognised at the highest level. May all their deeds get the blessings of the Almighty.***
