BANGI, 14 May 2015: Malaysians can afford to pursue higher education as 90 per cent of the cost is subsidised by the government, Prime Minister, Dato Sri Mohd Najib Tun Razak, told a round table and youth thinker living cost forum launching ceremony at Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM), Bangi last Saturday.

The Prime Minister talked about the education democracy in Malaysia where the government subsidised 90 per cent of the higher education cost while students only need to bear 10 percent of the cost.

œFurthermore, for students who cannot afford the 10 percent cost, the government has provided loans and scholarship facilities such as that offered by the National Higher Education Fund Corporation or the Perbadanan Tabung Pendidikan Tinggi Nasional (PTPTN) to make sure they can further their studies, said the Prime Minister.

He added that because of Malaysias education system, there should be no issue of students who cannot afford to pursue higher education. Students must aim to study hard instead of thinking about the education expenses.

Besides education, the Prime Minister also highlighted the health care system in Malaysia as the only system that provided the lowest payment that is RM1 to see the doctor, and RM5 to see the medical specialist, at the government hospital.

The launching ceremony ended after the Prime Minister delivered the certificates of appreciation to ten representatives from the young thinker youth organisation. ***
