Visiting a small fishing village at Perupok, Kelantan just took my breath away, as I have been brought up in a city away from the sea. I came from China and there is no sea north west of China and people will never see the beauty of the sea if they do not go south.
Recently, the Department of Communication visited the village and undertook a research where 50 students took part. On that Friday morning, we left Gombak campus at 11 a.m. There were several stops along the way making the whole excursion more exiciting. After eight hours, we finally arrived. I was really impressed and surprised by the scenery that greeted us. It was a beautiful red coloured sunset. Everything seemed so spiritually tranquil at that moment.
The next morning, I woke up early to enjoy the sun rise. It made me happy. Watching a sunrise is like looking at a newborn infant who is full of energy. We then proceeded to visit the villagers and what impressed me most was their kindness and friendliness of the people. This is unlike the urbanites who are always busy with their own lives.
After a long day, we finally had our dinner. Kelantanese food is spicy and it reminded me of the food from my hometown, where people like to eat hot stuffs.
Perupuk is a small village where most of its inhabitants live on fishing. The villagers may not be rich and modernised as those in the cities, but they are friendly people and humble in ways that you can’t find anywhere else. It was really an experience to behold.***
