The Teratak River View experience

GOMBAK, 27 April 2015: Recreation Skill 1 had organized an event for their practical outing. A camping has been held for 3 days and 2 nights at Teratak River View, Tanjung Malim, Perak. The camping started from 24 until 26 April. This practical outing has been made compulsory to all students who enrol in the Recreation Skill 1 course.

During the programme, 162 students participated. They were divided into groups and each group consists of ten persons. Each group was assigned several tasks by the trainers such as cooking rice for all groups and preparing drinks for everyone.

They departed from IIUM around 1 a.m and arrived there at 2 a.m. After that they had to walk around 5 km until 10 km to arrive at Teratak River View. They were served with drink when they arrived there and after that they have been given time to rest.

The programme started around 9 a. m when all participants were setting up their tents. Then, they had to look for bamboos to make a shoe rack and also a rack for putting all their plates. Students have also been taught by the trainers the right way to use a compass. Throughout the programme, the students need to prepare their meals by themselves.

During night time, all students need to go to the jungle and need to prepare their dinner there. They also need to perform Maghrib and Isyak prayers there and they went back to their camp site at 12 a.m.

The next day, that is on Sunday morning, the programme took place at the river. Many activities were conducted there such as using the tube in the river, river crossing using the rope and also first aid activity like how to help an injured person to cross the river without falling down in the water. These activities were really adventurous, interesting and enjoyable.

In the afternoon, after having their lunch, they started to pack their belongings. They departed at 6.30 p.m and arrived at IIUM at 7.30 p.m. Although they were very tired they enjoyed the programme and obtained a lot of skills and knowledge to apply them when they are in the jungle.***
