GOMBAK, 14 April 2015: Media and Communication Week started today with a speech programme on radio presentation by Jamal Jamaluddin conducted at the Speech Lab, HS building. He is a deejay from one local radio, Sinar.fm.

The programme began with a game by Dr. Shafizan Mohamed, one of the lecturers in IIUM. She asked some questions regarding the topic of the speech. Some of the students who attended the programme were very excited answering the questions and received some gifts from the lecturer.

The programme continued with listening to the speech that has been given by Jamal Jamaluddin. He started the speech by introducing himself and also telling the audience about his background. He has been working with Sinar.fm for eleven years. He had worked with Era.fm in 1998 for the morning slot with popular DJ Halim Othman.

The deejay also stated some of the requirements to be a deejay. There are many requirements, one of them is to read newspaper or online newspaper everyday so that they will know everything that happened around them. It’s an important element to be a deejay for a radio station.

Furthermore, the deejay also stressed on the personality of an individual. In order to be a successful deejay, he or she needs to use and show their strength or ability that he or she has.

A successful deejay cannot show his or her weaknesses to the public. In addition, the deejay must have link with their listeners. According to Jamal Jamaluddin, the deejay needs to make the listeners feel like the deejay is talking to them alone, then only the listener will be loyal to the deejay.

The speech became one of the good programmes that trained the students how to appear interesting being a deejay or working in the radio station. The programme ended by making a slot for the audience to ask questions regarding radio deejay. There were several programmes held during the Media and Communication Week where students have the opportunity to gain more knowledge about the media and communication.
