GOMBAK, 31 December 2020: Malaysia rings in the new year with sombre mood as the country sets a new record high with 2,525 new cases of COVID-19 today.Â
Among them, 13 cases were imported.
A total of 8 deaths were also recorded, making the current COVID-19 death toll to 471.
Selangor reigns first with a total of 1,205 cases, followed by Sabah coming in second at 299 and Melaka, third, with 239 cases.
131 cases are currently in the intensive care Unit (ICU) with 60 of them in need of respiratory assistance.
The statement from the Ministry of Health (MOH) informs that, œA total of 304 cases or 12 percent of the cases reported were related to clusters in lockups, immigration detention depots and prisons.
Five new clusters were detected today in Selangor, Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya, Johor and Negeri Sembilan.
Additionally, the Director-General of Health, Tan Sri Dr. Noor Hisham disclosed a total of 1,481 cases of COVID-19 have recovered and discharged today, adding to the total number of discharged and recovered cases to 88,941 cases. ***
