“Global Syabab” for a better nation

By Siti Nur Fatihah Sahlan

PAGOH, 1 December 2020: The youth are the backbone of the nation and they are the ones who are expected to change the future of society given their good behaviour guided by being true Muslims.

A webinar on “Syabab Talk” was held last Friday (27November) with the main objective to create awareness on the importance of their role as Allah’s vicegerent and as Muslim youth in society.

The programme was conducted in conjunction with two important international celebrations; International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women on 25 November, and the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People on 29 November.

It was organised by Mahallah Zaid bin Harithah Representative Committee (MRC) 2020/2021 in collaboration with Yayasan Al-Quds Malaysia.

Miss Saadiah Din, a legal practitioner in the Shariah Court of Selangor, shared her knowledge and experience regarding justice in Islam for women and explained the enforcement of law related to women.

She explained how justice works saying, “The word “justice” (عادل in Arabic) is a comprehensive term which means putting something in the right place.” She also emphasised that knowing the law is very important because “you will then know how to handle the cases.”

Miss Saadiah reminded the students to obtain all the necessary reports which can assist the victim in dealing with the authorities.

She stressed that justice in Islam for women is not only about gender equality. “Certainly, the most crucial part is to focus more on domestic violence as it is not only about women, but it is also related to children.”

Meanwhile, Dr. Sharif Amin bin Abu Shammala, the current CEO of Al-Quds Foundation Malaysia, shared his insightful thought on the history of Palestine.

He said, “Palestine used to be part of the Uthman Empire and the Palestinians used to feel they are part of Muslim’s world”.

Giving his explanation on how Palestinian people began to lose their homeland, he said, “In 1917, Britain gave Jewish committee a declaration that they will give Palestine as their home.”

Al-Quds Foundation has initiated a few programmes for the youth with a vision and mission to help the Palestinians by providing training and giving education on current issues in Palestine and Baitul Maqdis.

The foundation focuses on cooperation and networking with other activists and NGOs to share the developing issues at Baitul Maqdis.

It has launched a website “Aqsapedia” to provide informative news on the situation in Baitul Maqdis and Palestine. It is also active on social media to provide updates via Facebook and uploading documentaries about Palestine on their YouTube channel.

“Every day, the Palestinian people are suffering under the threats and pressures of the zionist. Even foreign aid will not be given to them but left until damaged and unusable,” Sharif Amin added to explain to the audience the situation in Palestine.

He reminded the students as Syabab and youth to be aware of the issue in Palestine and other places related with Muslim people.

The two-hour sharing session held live on Facebook was moderated by Hanif Naim and watched by over 100 people among IIUM students and the public.

All recorded sessions are available at Facebook @Mahallah Zaid bin Harithah
