Graduates with multi-skills and global mindset fetch higher value

GOMBAK, 19 October 2019 – Individuals who possessed multi-skills with an ability to think globally have a much better chance to secure jobs as companies believed that they are valuable compared to grade employees, IIUM President, Datuk Dr. Mohd Daud Bakar, said this in a sharing session on Wednesday (16 October).

The university is only a platform to help mould multi-skills among students. The rest would lie on the students to prepare themselves in the job market, the President said in his talk on the topic ‘Realist and Futurist Students: What It Takes?’

Students were reminded that job opportunities in the market would not depend solely on academic excellence but also having multi-skills such as ability to think globally and having good leadership skill.

The forum, organised by Student Affairs and Development Division (STADD), and held at IIUM Cultural Centre (ICC), aimed to inspire and give students more information about the current situation on job market.

“Islam has taught us about the future and it depends on how the individual discovers the future especially to find the job later on,” said Datuk Dr. Mohd Daud Bakar.

The flooding of graduates and economic problems are factors that led to the issue, making many companies see academic performances (or CGPA) alone as irrelevant in employing graduates.

He concluded his sharing session by reminding everyone that there is no such thing as a “wrong time” and to always think about the future, just like Sultan Al Fateh.***
