Poetry: Humanity’s random acts of kindness

By Mahadhir bin Monihuldin

Who knew

humanity’s random acts of kindness

these sincerely thoughtful yet completely unplanned deeds

which people do just for our delight

seemingly out of nowhere

in truth come from a place somewhere after all.

Think deeper into a random act of kindness

beneath the enigma that’s wrapped around such a puzzling performance of affection

and one would indeed discover a very deliberate intent

radiating warmth from the hands of the one who intends.

For inside the heart of a random act of kindness

is the noble wish to express appreciation

by passing down memorable antiques ornamented with historical value.

You see, time has a bitter way of chilling us with whispers

of how we grow more forgettable

as it slowly leads us to the void of our demise.

But for these antiques of appreciation we’ve left behind

these very random acts of kindness

preserved carefully within the minds of those we’re sure will cherish them wholeheartedly

against the cold, uncaring sway of time

they shall remain warm and treasured forevermore.      ***
