GOMBAK. 11 May 2015: In conjunction with the celebration of the 5th year of IIUM.fm’s establishment recently, the crew members had invited a sensational radio station DJ Ikhwan from Hot.fm for a sharing session with him.
The event was held on 7 May 2015 at the IIUM.fm student office. During the event, he shared with the radio crews of his experiences and gave useful tips from the entertainment industry.
Dj Ikhwan who came from a humble family started with zero knowledge of the industry. Yet he is standing strong in the challenging industry for about 10 years.
Some of the interesting tips that he shared with the crews were very insightful and engaging. Among the tips that he stressed were:
To have your own identity, be yourself, be real and be honest. He believed, with honesty and His blessings will surely take you far in any industry you are working with.
To have a connection with the audience is to engage with the listeners. By approaching closely with the audience will actually help a lot. DJ Ikhwan shared one of the tips he used to get his audience hooked was by remembering details of the listeners as in the name of family members and he would try to engage a conversation with them by asking questions about something significant. It might look as a small thing to do, but it would leave a huge impact on the listeners. One of other ways was also to imagine you were talking to your own family members when youre talking to the audience. This would instantly create a certain closeness.
Thirdly, is to be humble and treat the listeners as a star. As an announcer, you were not only talking to the audience but you are also playing other roles as well like a listener, music influencer, giving inputs and information.
To be emotionally and mentally fit is also important in becoming an announcer. Learn how to manage own private problem that might affect your mood and emotions while youre working. Always keep the positive vibe in check so you can deliver well to the audience and spread positivity.
As someone who has been in the industry for 10 years, Ikhwan said, œBeing an announcer is all about sharing, when you share with others, youll get back. Always challenge yourself to do something better, dont be afraid to be negative with yourself because it only means you’re getting out of your comfort zone. Furthermore, with a great amount of passion, it will produce a great outcome.
The sharing moment session received positive feedback from students. Kautsar Alia, an announcer at IIUM.fm was quoted saying, œToday was perfect, it was such an amazing experience to be able to meet this wonderful and talented announcer who showed us that even when life keeps pushing you off the edges, as long as you have the will and determination to be your best, it will eventually come to you.”

Another remark given by Nuha Muhd, an economics student: œToday I learned so much about interpersonal skills through Ikhwans speech, presentation and the way he interacted. He is very warm and such a nice person.***
