GOMBAK, 10 November 2014: The International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM) has launched the new IIUM Bookshop, IIUM New Books, IIUM Press New Website, Knowledge Waqf Project and IIUM Press Book Festival 2014.
According to Deputy Rector, Prof Dato’ Dr. Md. Tahir Azhar, the IIUM Bookstore produced its owns scholarly publication in order to educate and mould the students.
IIUM Press Publication does only involved the Malaysian readers. It engages with readers from the European countries, South America, USA, Canada, the Middle East, and the African and Asian countries.
The main purpose of operating this IIUM Bookshop is to provide students and the academic staff the opportunity to obtain reference and text books that hardly could be found in the outside market.
Furthermore, IIUM has also been collaborating with other renown publishers, including from Majlis Penerbitan Ilmiah Malaysia (MAPIM) that consists of publishers from Institut Terjemahan Buku Negara (ITBN), Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), Univirsiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) and Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM), as well from non-MAPIM members such as IBFIM, INCIEF, John Wiley and others which preferred to market their own books.
Additionally, IIUM Press have successfully managed to engage a knowledge waqf project with the Islamic Development Bank of Jeddah which amounted to USD600,000 for three years from 1435 until 1438 Hijriah, which marked an innovative start of collaboration with outside organisations.
IIUMÂ Press is also planning to team up with ITBN to translate university books in Bahasa Melayu to Arabic language. ***
