GOMBAK, 7 November 2014: The Kulliyyah of Medicine, IIUM would soon have its own teaching hospital with Islam as its foundation. According to iiumedic.net, IIUM has signed a Concession Agreement (CA) with Ahmad Zaki Resources Berhad (AZRB) and Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE) to design and build a teaching hospital in IIUM Kuantan campus.

The hospital that costs RM413 million is expected to be completed in 2015.  The source stated that Peninsular Medical will build the hospital within three-and-a-half years and maintain it for 21-and-a-half years. Construction began in January 2012 and is expected to complete in June 2015.

What makes the “newly born” hospital project different from other hospital in Malaysia is that it will be in line with the vision of IIUM in leading the way of Islamisation of knowledge and following certain criteria of Shariah compliance.

In addition, the hospital will house various medical disciplines, which include surgical and medical sub-specialists in the areas of internal medicine, surgery, oncology, cardiology, neuroscience, obstetrics and paediatrics, among others. This can be said that it is in line with the long term strategic plan of the university that promotes Islam as ‘the way of life’ and creation of a society imbued with Islamic values through peace, moderation, just, compassion, quest for knowledge, sustainable economy and in harmony with the environment.***
