IIUM celebrates Ma’al Hijrah 1436

GOMBAK, 31 October: Staffs of International Islamic University Malaysia gathered at the Cultural Activity Centre today for the Al Liqa Al Shahri (monthly assembly) held in conjunction with the IIUM 1436 Maal Hijrah celebration.

The ceremony began with the singing of nasheed entitled Tala ˜Al Badru ‘Alaina led by IIUMs own nasheed group, the Sheikh Band followed by the recitation of the holy Quran by Ustaz Abdul Khair bin Jalil. A video entitled ˜State of the Ummah was also played for the audiences contemplation.

The Rector of IIUM, Prof. Dato Sri Dr. Zaleha Kamaruddin accompanied by Director of the Corporate Communication Division, Dato’ Hamidon Abdul Hamid launched the IIUM family website.

In conjunction with the Maal Hijrah celebration, Prof Dr. Ahmad Hafiz bin Zulkifli from the Kulliyyah of Medicine was chosen as the winner of the IIUM Maal Hijrah 1436 Award for his outstanding contributions to IIUM and society at large.

The ceremony was then followed by a special prize giving ceremony for a group of four talented IIUM students namely Mohd Hafidzi Mohd Razali, Wan Afifah Wan Salleh, Nur Amirah Abdul Jamal and Munirah Mohd Aminudeen known as the Synergy Consultancy who won third place in the SME-University Internship Programme National Level 2014.

The SME-University Internship Programme has been organised by the Office of Industrial Links since 2009. Through this programme, the Office of Industrial Links with the joint venture of SME Corporation and the Ministry of International Trade & Industry have produced 30 business counsellors among academic staffs and 300 entrepreneurship interns among IIUM students stemming from various kulliyyahs and backgrounds.

Finally, the audience witnessed mock cheque presentations from the Deputy Chairman of Lembaga Pemegang Amanah Kolej Islam Malaya (LAKIM), Tan Sri Dato Seri Utama Arshad bin Ayub and the Board of Director of UMW Holdings Berhad, Dato Dr. Nik Norzrul Thani bin Hassan Thani who contributed to the students through the IIUM Endowment Fund.
