GOMBAK, 30 November 2020: Students were able to gain pieces of useful information about the coming election to decide who their representatives would be for the student body, IIUM Student Union (IIUMSU).

A talk series on Public Opinion 1.0 on “Our Future, Our Leaders: The Competency of Student Representatives” was held on Sunday night (29 November) where the panelists discussed the criteria of a competent student representative and the meaning of competency in leadership.

Organised by IIUM Student Union Election Commission (IIUMSUEC), the discussion was moderated by the KBS representative of IIUM Student Union Election Commission, Mirza Batrisyia.

The President of IIUM Student Union Protem Committee Kuantan, Muhammad Anwar Mohd Nor told the session that “a competent leader should be futuristic and realistic at the same time, a good listener and emotionally-wise person.”

The same question was then answered by the Exco (PR & Advocacy) in IIUMSU, Farida Hanim Bukhari when she said that a leader should place himself or herself in other’s shoes to know what the students want.

Meanwhile, Mohamad Ika Danial Abdullah, IIUMSU’s Exco (Education) said that an intention also plays a role in student leadership. “This is the symbol of your attitude on the future; whether you want to help the students or just to serve your own interest,” he said.

The session further discussed the opinion of the panelists on the manifesto and steps towards fulfilling it.
