GOMBAK, 13 October 2019: Cat Day @ Fiesta For All aimed at spreading awareness on taking care of the wellbeing of cats, especially cats in IIUM campus, took place in Multipurpose Hall, Kulliyyah of Information and Communication Technology (KICT) this morning.

The president of Abu Hurairah Club, Munirah Rahman, who was also the programme manager of this event, emphasised on showcasing IIUM as a leading example in organising an event involving pet animals.

This event which was held in conjunction with ITSEF ’19, was officiated by Madam Begüm Soysal, a representative from Tourism and Information office, Culture Counsellor of Turkish Embassy in Kuala Lumpur.

Cats that are available in Multipurpose Hall, KICT, have been collected from around the IIUM campus itself, compared to the previous year where cats were collected from other organisations, as this is the event’s uniqueness this year.

These cats are open for adoption, in-line with Abu Hurairah Club’s objective to reduce the population of stray cats around IIUM campus.

Munirah Rahman expressed the hope that this event will successfully create awareness among IIUM community about the importance of taking care of cats.

“I hope that the community can accept cats as a part of their families because they are pets, not pests,” said Munirah Rahman during the interview session with IIUMToday.

This event was a result of a collaboration between ICT Student Society and Abu Hurairah Club, IIUM.

Several activities were held during this event, such as pet a cat corner, kitty bazaar and cat fancy dress. ***
