“Behind the Veil of Syria” on need for unity of ‘ummah’

By Mohammad Saifullah

Gombak, 17 February 2017: “Behind the Veil of Syria” was a successful programme which left several crucial advices for the audience to reflect on the ummah’s unity. The programme was organised by Al Aqsa Friend Society IIUM to let the people know the real situation in Syria.

The programme held last night at Econs LT1 at Kulliyyah of Economics and Management Sciences started at 8p.m and ended at 10:30 p.m.

There were two speakers at “Behind the Veil of Syria” talk. One was Mohammad Qutub, an IIUM student, who described the real condition of Syria that has been burning down from six years back till now.

And the other prominent speaker was Assistant Professor Dr. Mohd Yazid Zol Kepli, from the Ahmad Ibrabim Kulliyyah of Law IIUM (AIKOL) who delivered a motivational speech for the audiences.

The programme was to let the audience know about Syria besides giving a picture of the  present position of our ummah and how to overcome it.

Mohammad Qutub said, “If we are not concerned about what is going on in Syria and some other countries, we cannot feel the sufferings they go through. We tend to skip them because we think they are not our countrymen!”

“This is the time to raise our voice and do something what can really unite us as one ummah,” he added.

There was an impressive moment when Dr. Yazid brought his son and held him like Aylan Kurdi who fell on the shore after their boat sank on the river. He reminded the audiences of Aylan Kurdi and said “when I saw my son like this, I could feel the small boy who made the world shameful.”

Dr. Yazid then asked a question to the audiences, “We are a very forgetful community, what is the reason of our falling and what we should do to conquer it?”

Later he gave this answer, “We should find our common interest that can bring us together and we should start it through IIUM community as we have diverse community from around the world.”

“The first thing we have to take care is our solat (prayer), when we could have established the solat in our community it will surely lead us towards peace,” he added. ***
