TANJUNG Malim, Perak, is the town in the peninsula where the first Youth City will be located. Two others ” part of the 1Malaysia Youth City project ” will be built, one in Sabah and another in Sarawak. An integrated development catering to the needs of Generation Y (Gen Y), the city will not only provide affordable homes, but also job opportunities and leisure infrastructure. It is the mechanism for a bright future where Gen Y is composed of resilient and competitive individuals possessing positive values. As such, it is presumed that those applying will be filtered to meet certain criteria that will produce the desired outcome; a kind of social engineering based on a special physical environment intended to modulate specific types of young individuals. Naturally, youth with a disposable income that affords them the œaffordable homes is the priority, thus excluding the Bottom 40 (B40) households.
