JASIN, 23 October 2026: 26 students from Usrah in Action 2, Section 502, from the Kulliyyah of Sustainable Tourism and Contemporary Languages (KSTCL) successfully organised the Modul Asas Literasi Bahasa Melayu (MALBaM) project from 7.00 AM to 12.00 PM, at Sekolah Kebangsaan Selandar, Melaka.
The project aimed to provide additional support to 34 students aged between 7 and 12 who faced difficulties with Malay literacy, focusing on four key skills: reading, writing, listening and speaking. The initiative was also a continuation of the students’ efforts following their observations conducted at the school in April.

Conducted in an Explorace format, the project featured several missions adapted from the original ideas developed for the MALBaM module, including Cerita Bersambung for reading, Misi Cantum Kata for writing, Siapa Saya? for listening, and Bagaimana? for speaking. The primary school students were divided into seven groups, each consisting of five members, with seven committee members assigned as facilitators to guide them throughout the activities.

With a tagline ‘Menyulam Aksara, Membina Masa Depan’, the programme manager, Masyitah binti Mohd Fouzi, explained that the programme was more than just an effort to help primary school students improve their Malay literacy skills. It also provided an opportunity for the committee members to develop their skills, strengthen teamwork and give back to the community.
“Although we faced many challenges throughout the preparation and implementation, I am grateful for the commitment shown by each member of Section 502.
I hope this programme has given the students a fun and meaningful learning experience. I also hope that MALBaM will continue to benefit the school and serve as a lasting good deed for everyone,” she added.
Feedback from the teachers highlighted their appreciation for the committee’s efforts in assisting the students and described MALBaM as a helpful and creative approach to improving Malay literacy.
Meanwhile, the Chief Editor, Anisah Liyana binti Mohd Fauzan, expressed her gratitude and reflected on the challenges and experiences throughout the module development process.
“Alhamdulillah, all praise is due to Allah SWT for this opportunity. The responsibility was enormous, as this module will be used by teachers at SK Selandar to help strengthen their students’ proficiency in the Malay language.”
Anisah added that after consecutive planning sessions, numerous meetings and multiple rounds of revisions, MALBaM finally reached its final version in early October. During the preparation process, countless amendments were made to ensure that the content and quality of MALBaM were at their best.
“Throughout these months of dedication and hard work, we were fortunate to receive valuable insights from our fellow friends, guidance and encouragement from Dr Jamilah as our advisor, support from the dedicated teachers of SK Selandar, and advice from an experienced POASM officer. Their contributions and guidance not only eased our responsibilities but also helped shape the MALBaM module into what it is today,” she said.
As the project came to an end, MALBaM marked more than just an initiative to improve Malay literacy among the students of SK Selandar. It reflected the dedication, teamwork and commitment of the Usrah in Action 2, Section 502 students in creating a lasting contribution to the community. Through the module, the students hope that their efforts will continue to benefit both teachers and pupils at SK Selandar in the years to come.***
