GOMBAK, 20 October 2026: The opening ceremony of Deen Week 2026: Century of Bloods: The Beginning commenced with a series of speeches and activities emphasising Islamic values, unity and solidarity with the Palestinian people.
The ceremony began at 1.00 pm with the arrival of VIPs, lecturers, and students, followed by the opening remarks by the emcee and a recitation of du’a. The programme continued with a speech by Prof. Dr. Gairuzazmi bin Mat Ghani, Dean of the Kulliyyah of Economics and Management Sciences, before a special address by Hazwani Helmi, a participant of the Global Sumud Flotilla.
In her speech, Hazwani Helmi highlighted the importance of solidarity with the Palestinian people, drawing attention to their ongoing struggles and the need for continued support from the international community. Her presence at the ceremony offered attendees an opportunity to reflect on the importance of standing alongside Palestinians in their pursuit of justice, freedom, and dignity.
The Global Sumud Flotilla represents a collective effort to express solidarity with Palestinians, particularly through initiatives addressing the humanitarian crisis in Gaza. Hazwani’s participation in the initiative further underscored the significance of taking action and raising awareness about the situation faced by Palestinians.
Her address served as a reminder that solidarity extends beyond words and requires continued commitment, awareness and meaningful action. It also aligned with the broader spirit of Deen Week 2026, which seeks to encourage students to reflect on Islamic principles and their relevance to contemporary humanitarian issues.
Following the special address, the ceremony proceeded with a gimmick session, a solidarity and Qunut Nazilah session, and the officiating of Deen Week 2026: The Art of Perfecting Ad-Deen. The programme concluded with a token of appreciation presentation, a photography session, and closing remarks before attendees dispersed at 1.50 pm.
Through its opening ceremony, Deen Week 2026 set the tone for a programme that connects religious reflection with awareness of global humanitarian concerns, reinforcing the importance of compassion, unity and solidarity with the Palestinian people.***
