SPEAKING at the 70th United Nations (UN) General Assembly in New York on Thursday, the prime minister, in responding to the theme œThe United Nations at 70: the Road Ahead for Peace, Security and Human Rights, said if these are to be achieved, then putting people first is the answer. Revolving around the tragedy of the Middle East, the speech was a plea to moderation and truth as the instruments by which the lies of the harbinger of mayhem, the Islamic State (IS), can be defeated. For IS presents a transborder threat unlike any other before, and by forces that do not exist within given frameworks of international law. And, as he stressed, Malaysia is not speaking as a remote observer, but rather, as a party directly involved in the possible threat from returning militants trained in warfare having been part of the IS army of terrorists.
