IT has been a long journey for mirror neurons, identified by Giacomo Rizzolati and his colleagues at the University of Parma in the early 1990s from observing the behaviour of monkeys and planting electrodes in their brains. Monkeys at least, are sympathetic to the feelings of other monkeys.
