THE last old man in my village died a few days before Hari Raya Aidilfitri. His identity card registered his date of birth as April 10, 1937. His children believed he was born many years earlier. He was the last of the Mohicans ” the first generation of settlers who made the enclave their home. Many of them came from Ponorogo in central Java. His father was a local guy but of Javanese descent, too.
