PROVIDING the public with such conveniences as transportation necessarily entails an obligation to safety, a guarantee that no harm will come to them while availing themselves of the service. Irrespective of whether it is provided by the public or private sector, the same applies. To ensure compliance, the government has set up the Land Public Transport Commission (SPAD) to, firstly, licence the operations and then, to oversee that safety regulations are adhered to religiously to prevent accidents. Public safety then is paramount, irrespective of what the mode of transport is, be it the buses, trains or taxis, and SPAD is tasked to make certain of this.
