GOMBAK, 13 October 2023: The Communication and Media Centre (COMET), IIUM, kicked off its highly-anticipated Communication Research Seminar (CORENA) 2023, showcasing the ever-evolving landscape of media and communication under the theme “Media and Communication in Shaping the Future: Navigating Trends and Transformations.”

The conference, held on Thursday, October 5th at at-Tabari conference room, brought together a diverse assembly of scholars, academics, students, and industry professionals. CORENA 23, known for its commitment to thought leadership in Communication research, did not disappoint this year with a line-up of interesting topics, insightful sessions, and interactive discussions.

The seminar began with the opening remark by myself as COMET’s Coordinator as I introduced participants to COMET. I highlighted that it is a hub dedicated to advancing research, innovation, and education in the field of Communication and Media. COMET aims to foster intellectual growth and driving positive change through Communication studies. I also delved into the importance of having discourses that challenge the boundaries of what we currently know about media and communication. COMET’s Advisor, Professor Dato’ Sri. Dr. Syed Arabi Idid continued the discourse, shedding light on the evolving role of Communication scholars and practitioners and its profound impact on the future of society.

Over the course of the seminar, participants had the opportunity to attend a wide array of sessions covering diverse facets of communication research. Topics ranged from social media’s role in shaping public opinion to the ethical considerations of data privacy in the digital age.

CORENA 23 was a testament to the commitment of COMET in fostering an inclusive environment for dialogue and collaboration. Diverse voices and perspectives took centre stage throughout the event, sparking meaningful discussions and exploration of varying viewpoints.

The seminar witnessed the presentation of contemporary research and creative solutions in the field of communication. Participants were challenged with thought-provoking studies, including the impact of social media on the well-being and emotions of the senior citizens and positive social change.

CORENA 23 demonstrated that Communication and Media are evolving rapidly, shaping our collective future. This seminar, spearheaded by COMET, served as a platform for the convergence of ideas and the exploration of what lies ahead in this dynamic field.
