GOMBAK: Prof. Dr. Junaidah Hashim, a lecturer of the Kulliyyah of Economics and Management Sciences (KENMS), received the ‘highest citation in citation index journal’ award during the IIUM Quality Day in July this year.

œI am very grateful that my research work has actually attracted the interest from others. Once people cited your work that means you already contribute to the body of knowledge, “Prof. Dr. Junaidah told IIUMToday when asked to share her feeling in receiving the award.

This award was given in recognition of how many of the researchers publication index journal has been cited by others.

Junaidah viewed the Quality Day 2014 award as a reward for those who have worked hard and may give inspiration to others.

œI did not expect to get any reward when I did the research because I like what I did. But when I received the award, Alhamdulillah, it is a bonus for me,” she said.

Apart from that, she was doing research for the sake of publication and the award had never come across her mind because the publication would contribute to the career of a lecturer.

Junaidah, who once won the Best Teacher Award and Quality Research Award many years ago, also gave some thought for the future.

She said: œWhen I listened to the speech by the Rector, I think as an academic staff, I want to play a role in assisting the university to secure international grants.

She believed that IIUM should have the confidence to compete at international level.

“I am motivated to work on that now,” she added.

At the same time, Junaidah is now doing research in a niche area. She is doing her research on new and timely topics where not many researchers are doing it.

“If we do on the topic that has already been done by so many researchers, then our work will be less cited. So we need to contribute something new to the knowledge,” she said.
