GOMBAK, 19 October 2015: The Martial Arts Integration Festival (MAFEST) held in IIUM campus recently witnessed demonstrations and performances of martial arts such as aikido, taekwando and karate as well as silat gayung and silat cekak.
Held under the umbrella of Sports Development Centre, the opening ceremony took place at the Experimental Hall, launched by the Administrative Officer (Student Affairs and Development Division), Tuan Anuzi Nik Him.
Various performances were showcased by the respective martial arts clubs, which attracted good audiences who applauded the demonstrations. Members of the martial arts clubs were also present to give support to their team.
There were also video presentations from Canoe and Cycling Clubs as well as from Adventure Recreational Club (ARC) and eSports Club. In the video presentations, the activities of the respective clubs were shown.
A number of interesting activities were showcased; among the eye-catching one was from the ARC Club. They shared their exciting hiking experiences that included success story of participants reaching safely at the hilltop.
For this third year of MAFEST the Sports Development Centre has introduced eSports Club, an electronic sports consisting of a variety of video games like the famous DOTA and COC.
Sources said the eSports Club is open to all students who are interested in online games and it intends to organise tournaments and matches in future among its members.
MAFEST closing ceremony saw a martial arts performance by PencakSilat.
Nur Asilah Abd Karim, 21, said she was amused with the performances. Another student, Mohd Firdaus Che Hadzir, 31, an alumni of SilatCekak Ustaz Hanafi, said this event was a success and able to show young talents in martial arts.***
