At 9.15am, the local currency opened lower at 4.1700\/1799 against the greenback from 4.1310\/1400 at Fridays closing. The local unit rallied to a seven-week high of 4.1310\/1400 last Friday compared to 4.4100\/4180 the previous Friday on the back of improved sentiment. Dealers said sentiment however was positive for the ringgit as regional currencies remained on the uptrend amid the weakening greenback. The ringgit, which ended broadly higher against other major currencies last week, was traded lower against other major currencies this morning. It fell against the Singapore dollar to 2.9769\/9854 from 2.9587\/9656 last Friday and depreciated against the yen to 3.4712\/4809 from 3.4356\/4445 at the end of last week.
